An uncouthed minister…an abject disgrace to Singaporeans
“If you listened very carefully Mr Low, I don’t know whether his hearing aid is with him because he wears one, I said there is a greater potential for law and order problems.”
The above words were spoken in the chambers of Parliament.
Spoken by a Member Of Parliament.
Spoken by an Associate Professor.
Spoken by a Minister Of State.
Spoken to an opposition MP.
Spoken to a fellow human being.
Spoken to a fellow Singaporean.
Spoken to an opposition MP who was wearing a hearing aid.
Spoken by MP for Nee Soon East SMC.
Spoken by Minister Of State for Law and Home Affairs
Spoken by Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee.
One can only wonder what was going through his mind when he said those words. Was he thinking, “Man, I’ve got him good now!” or “Let me put you down, boy!”
I should have been there in Parliament at that time. To see his face, his demeanour when he said those words. To see if he smiled, or laughed or sniggered.
To see if his fellow PAP MPs smiled. Laughed. Sniggered.
Those words are bereft of sensitivity. Devoid of humanity. Absent of respect.
It lowers not only the House but also the person named Ho Peng Kee.
This is not even politics.
This is the behaviour of what we would call thugs, gangsters.
The behaviour of the uncouthed.
I am ashamed that we have such a minister, such an MP, such a professor.
Such a Singaporean.
Such a Singaporean who would, for the sake of winning an argument, resort to what I would call vulgar condescension of another.
Prof Ho, you do not deserve to be in Parliament.
In short, what I want to say is:
You are a bloody disgrace to us Singaporeans and Singapore.
An abject disgrace.
